Large demonstration on pile driving and testing at SW22

The 11th International Conference on Stress Wave Theory and Design and Testing Methods for Deep Foundations (SW22) will be held in Rotterdam between September 20 and 23. The final day of the conference is dedicated to a large demonstration event at the Maasvlakte 2 in the Port of Rotterdam. This day is a substantial part of the conference. Lectures are given in the tent on site.

Demonstration on reclaimed land of the Maasvlakte
The selected area for pile testing is on the reclaimed land of the Maasvlakte. The site is situated near the beach and dunes. During the event you will experience pile driving, testing, monitoring and other demonstrations, tests and presentations. Since a couple of weeks, driving crews are working on this part of the Port of Rotterdam. Piles have been installed to serve several functions.

The installation has been monitored, recorded and measured to verify the predictions for drivability, pile stresses and blow counts for four installation methods. This includes the impact driven and vibratory driven piles. Once installed, piles will be tested statically and also dynamically by means of Rapid Load Testing. What differences can be expected depending on testing method or installation technique?

Pile load testing
After the recent installation of the first group of piles for the Testing and Prediction Event, it is now time for preparing and execution of the Pile Load Tests. The foundation piles will be subject to several load testing methods, including Static, Dynamic, and Rapid Load Testing.
