Hi all,
This forum is to discuss any ideas and discussions we have about events taking place Region South.
Kind regards,
Gijs.
KIVI EL south just finished organizing an event on june 6 at the “energie cooperatie weert’ (in dutch). See https://www.kivi.nl/afdelingen/elektrotechniek/activiteiten/activiteit/excursie-windpark-en-zonnepark-weert. This is one of the kind of events we can organize in South. What kind of events should we aim for?
I’m discussing this within the Bureau, KIE just had a succesful event in Den Hague :), Well done! I have had contact with Mikrocentrum and want to organise an evenet at the Precisiebeurs. Is it an idea to combine powers and organise an event during this period ? (15 and 16 november)
We should see to it that all events in South are also on the website of south. Andre van de Sande helped to do this for teh Ebusco visit in Deurne on june 23. Organzied bij Limburg region.
I noticed the WTB cafe too late to make arrangements for this. Organized by werktuigbouw with students in Breda on may 30.
Maybe all watch for this and take action??
HI All
Currently I am getting in contact with The Holst Centre to arrange for a KIVI-EL-zuid activity in the month October 2023. One of the plans I presented in our last Revival-South meeting.
The Holst Center is Located on the HTC. It has a number of activity areas. Our visit to the Workplace Vitatlity Hub last March is part of the Heath&Vitality focus market. The others are Energy&Climate and Mobility&Industry.
We know Holst as a place where TNO and Imec combine forces to do (with partners/customers) high level technological work.
Our plan is to ask for a detailed technical topic from one of the focus areas and get an impression of their work in general by demonstration in their experience centre.
What should we do to make it interesting for all combined south entities?
Regards, Steven
Yesterday (sept 1 2023) I put a news item on the region south webstite on the Gerard and Anton award. See: https://www.kivi.nl/afdelingen/regio-zuid/nieuws/artikel/winners-of-the-gerard-anton-award-2023-are-known .
It is one of the major events in the Brainport region to network with a wide commnuity of old and young people. An event to watch and maybe visit for networking.
Regards, Steven
Visit to imec Eindhoven on bioelectronics and kidney health Oct 26 2023. All region south members are welcome!! See: https://www.kivi.nl/afdelingen/elektrotechniek/activiteiten/activiteit/health-resarch-at-imec-in-eindhoven
From 21 – 29 October the DDW will be again in Eindhoven!
Last year YKE collaborated with TU/e Innovation Space, which was a huge succes. YKE members got exclusive tickets for a special DDW tour hosted by the TU/e Inno Space, within a couple of hours all tickets were claimed.
This year YKE is working with TU/e Innovation Space to collaborate again and aiming to strengthen this relationship. This might also be interesting for other depts.
Mooi, houd ons op de hoogte, Steven
Sounds great, thanks for the info! I will put this add this as an agenda point with KIVI Students and discuss it with them.
As you all received the email. I will be posting this on the forum as well.
* For our first action point, I would like to ask Jan, Wim and Jac to share ideas for upcoming events (or just general ideas) in our community forum. I will post the activity list of region south in the same forum. Please feel free to give each other feedback here. If you know other members who are also interested in contributing or staying up to date with potential events, please tell them they are more than welcome to join the community! (You can ask them to create a profile too, or reach out to me so I can help out).
@j.i.m.botman2@gmail.com, @Wim van Beers, @jacbrk@gmail.com; Could you create a profile on the Community, and post your idea/activity list on the community forum?
@Celina van den Bank; Could you find “the” list of actual problems in the region of south (Pollution of the Maas, or megafarms etc.) you created with Jac?
@Jun Wang; does KIE have an activity list that you might like to share?
@Cobben, Dieudonnee; does Regio Limburg have an activity list too they might want to share? 😊
@Eric Persoon; Could you create a list of region South/Elektrotechniek members who would like to join the community?
@Gijs Lankveld Will plan a next physical meeting.
These are some subjects we talked about in the meeting of the 13th of September
– I will plan the next physical meeting in about 2 months. Until then we can use community to discuss subjects.
– A new website is coming, and it’s important to have open profiles so that we can find each other.
Jac; 50 years of KIVI experience and has been chairman of Philosophy and technique for about 6 years. He’s looking for a new chair (and board members). Gijs will speak to Bert about Vrije Uni Groningen.
Jan; Has more of a mentor role as the chair. Looking for a board member in the South and for a new Chair. Possibly looking to hold webinars again, and running another symposium. Three younger board members (located in Delft and Twente).
Wim; Also looking for a new chair. 6 Fixed active members but also some floating ones. Wim will tell these members in the upcoming event this week about our endeavour to get in contact again with each other. After corona started with meet and greets. Had an event build around the nitrogen problem. Looking to do that again in another region.
Jun; KIE would like to have events in English. 6 board members all young. Looking to work together more closely.
Dieudonnee; wants to approach HBO’S and universities and start working together. The question remains; What do students want and how do they want it? What is the benefit of becoming a member, what is the value? We need to find out. I am thinking for now challenges we can give students in order to make KIVI relevant again. (Nitrogen and CO2 challenges are ready to go)
Wim; mentions Ethics are missing with younger students. Jac agrees, students are reluctant to take the role as the chair for example. I feel here is some overlap and this is a interesting subject. Training for Ethics and working on your mindset. “How to become a better (more complete) engineer”. This is something I have been talking about some time and would love to have as a theme on a congress (hosted by Mikrocentrum for example. I’ve talked to them about this and they are interested)
Eric Persoon: Region south has established a CO2 challenge meant for the Innovation space Challenge day. That got cancelled, but the challenge is ready to go, and it could be interesting to engage students with. Setting up challenges as KIVI and to approach universities and HBOs with these challenges to push for solutions etc. KIVI Defines challenges for students. (Innovation space at TU/e for example).
Celina; suggest combining hard skills and experience from the seniors with soft skills workshops for younger engineers. Celina Suggest that we should find a subject where different departments can collaborate, stop thinking in departments, and continue thinking in issues overlapping these departments.
Wim; What sustainable is able to do, many departments or issues are already stepping inside their territory. Possible collaboration?
Celina – Jun; App talking about an app for KIVI engineers.
I hope this is clear.
BTW. You can press the button at the bottom when posting a message to receive an email whenever a new post is made in this forum! Please do this for future reference!
Another interesting event for South: maker faire on the 23rd and 24th of September.
Thanks for the hint. The event is on the region south site now! https://www.kivi.nl/afdelingen/regio-zuid/activiteiten/activiteit/maker-faire-eindhovenhttps://www.kivi.nl/afdelingen/regio-zuid/activiteiten/activiteit/maker-faire-eindhoven
Dear all,
I am trying to upload the activities list of the South Region to the community, but I am still figuring out how to do this.
I spoke to Jac van den Broek last week, and he and Wim van Beers are discussing potential collaborations in future projects.
There is an upcoming event, the Recycling Vakbeurs in Gorinchem (21, 22nd and 23rd of November), where CORE CHANGEMAKERS, the Engineering student team award winners of 2023, will be present at stand H104. They have invited all KIVI members to attend the free event :). You can register for the event here: https://www.kivi.nl/activiteiten/activiteit/recycle-afval.
If you know any people that might be interested to attend the event, don’t hesitate to invite them as well!
By accident the activity on ITxperience came to my attention. In this comment communicated to everyone in the Region South group.

Interesting collaboration between the sections, the regions and Open Universiteit!
Hi ALL.
Last week I discovered that it was possible to post your event on the High Tech Campus Eindhoven on the HTCE website. Have a look at the HTCE announcement of the imec event on October 26 (https://www.hightechcampus.com/events/kivi-electrical-engineering-south-section/health-research-at-imec-in-eindhoven )
There are still seats available. Let your friends and colleagues know about the event. They are welcome!!
